Invisalign is a new option that uses clear plastic aligner trays, instead of fixed braces that use brackets and wires.

We know that many of our patient’s wish for straighter teeth, but are put off by the thought of visible treatment and a lengthy process. Yet recent developments mean there are some fantastic discreet options available, and one of these treatments is Invisalign clear aligners.

Invisalign is a new option that uses clear plastic aligner trays, instead of fixed braces that use brackets and wires. Individually made for each patient, the trays fit comfortably over the teeth like a mouth guard, gradually moving and straightening the teeth.

Using trays rather than traditional fixed braces means that you don’t have to worry about food getting caught as at mealtimes, or for important occasions, you can remove them. Patients also feel less discomfort, as fixed braces can cause some rubbing on the inside of the mouth and gums. Your oral health is also well maintained as you can remove them to fully clean the aligners and your teeth, but we would still recommend you attend hygiene therapy appointments.

If you are keen to discuss how you can discreetly straighten your teeth with the Invisalign system, our dentists will be happy to answer any questions you may have so you can make a considered, informed decision. If your clinician feels Invisalign is a suitable treatment option for you, based on not only your clinical needs, but also your emotional and financial considerations, they will create a Clincheck video, which gives you an opportunity to see how the Invisalign will work during the treatment and what the end result will be. They will carefully take impressions of your teeth to get your first set of clear aligners made.

You will need to change aligners approximately every two weeks, as your teeth start to move. It is possible to plan ahead but you will need to come into the practice for assessments and impressions approximately every 4 – 6 weeks, which is slightly more than with traditional fixed braces. Although you can remove the retainers, in order to achieve the best results in the quickest time, we always advise patients to wear them as much as possible, ideally around 22 hours each day (which quickly becomes a habit once you are used to them).

The Invisalign aligner system is an incredibly discreet and private way to help you achieve a smile you are proud to show off. Many of our patients tell us that even people standing right in front of them are not aware that they are wearing the aligners at all.
