Bridge versus an implant

Jawbone loss

The traditional dental solution for lost teeth is a denture or bridge, which can both function well and look good.

However, the lack of roots where the teeth are missing means that the jawbone gradually shrinks, affecting the fit of the bridge or denture and ageing the face as the cheeks hollow out and the chin recedes.

Our solution to jawbone loss

Our experienced dentists are able to offer a fantastic solution for patients who wish to prevent loss of their jawbone, and solidly fix their denture or bridge.

By using dental implants, we are able to halt the shrinking of the jaw, and support the other teeth in the mouth. Many patients also find their dentures fit and function better, boosting confidence and allowing you to enjoy all the foods you love once more, with complete confidence.

What is the implant retained dentures and bridges procedure?

If you decide to go ahead with treatment, our dentist Slavek will begin by administering a local anaesthetic, as he always wants to make sure you are completely comfortable at all times.

A small titanium post is then placed precisely into the jaw at the site of the missing tooth. This will act as the secure ‘root’ for the denture or bridge. The area is then stitched so the jawbone is able to fully bond to the implant and hold it firmly in place. At a later appointment, when the implant is healed, your bespoke bridge or denture is securely attached to the titanium ‘root’, giving you a strong, comfortable solution to your missing teeth.

Dental implants: Frequently asked questions

How much do dental implants cost?

Dental implants at Highfield Dental & Facial Clinic start from £2,795 for a single implant. We will discuss your treatment options during your free initial dental implant consultation and you will be made aware of all costs associated with your treatment before we begin.

Does dental implant treatment hurt?

Dental implant treatment is always carried out under local anaesthetic by our highly skilled and gentle dentist, so the treatment is always pain free. We are also able to offer sedation if you feel nervous about your treatment; your wellbeing is always our top priority. After your treatment, you may feel soreness for a few days, but this is easily managed with a soft diet and over-the-counter painkillers.

How long does dental implant surgery take?

This will depend on how many implants you require, but on average dental implant surgery takes 1-2 hours per single dental implant. We will be able to provide more precise information during your free initial implant consultation.

How long do dental implants last?

With the right care and maintenance, your new dental implants will last a lifetime. Your dental implants not only give you back a full and complete smile, they are a long-term investment in your dental health. This is why we always ensure our patients are fully aware of how to care for their dental implants to ensure they stay healthy and stable for many years to come. This is easily achieved with an excellent home care regime and regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments – we will be here for you every step of the way.

Are dental implants safe?

Dental implant treatment is very safe. It is a well-established treatment provided by highly experienced dental practitioners at Highfield Dental & Facial Clinic. As you would expect, we only use the highest quality dental implants that offer excellent results every time. Your treatment will be well planned prior to your appointment, and our aftercare will help you to ensure your new implants last a lifetime.
